Venture for America

Who Can Apply: US citizens or permanent residents; recent grads--meaning graduating seniors, those a year or two into their careers, or grad students with a year or two of advanced schooling.

Description: Venture for America (VFA) is a fellowship program that places recent graduates at startups in cities with emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems, forging a community of entrepreneurs committed to building companies that matter.

Fellows have the opportunity to work with more experienced entrepreneurs and see first-hand the challenges and triumphs that come with building a business. No matter their title, Fellows have the opportunity to develop skills, solve problems, and grow as people and professionals among a supportive, knowledgeable network.

At Training Camp and over the following two years, the program prepares Fellows for startup life by exposing them to a mix of real-life challenges, skill-building activities, guest speakers, and crucial advice from entrepreneurs who understand the landscape. By giving Fellows access to a nationwide network of mentors, the goal is to connect Fellows with people invested in their success.

Duration: Two years.

National Deadlines: There are four separate, but identical, application deadlines (TBA). The criteria remain the same for every deadline, but the program recommends applying as early as possible so that, if admitted, you’ll have the most time to prepare for their Match process. You may not apply more than once during the same season.

Program Preferences: VFA expects Fellows to possess the following qualities: integrity; the ability to contribute from day one; a strong, independent work ethic; and a commitment to VFA's mission. In practice, these qualities reflect the ability to find ways to thrive in the face of pressure and ambiguity, an emphasis on building things, and always working towards a greater goal.

Program Benefits: Become a member of the VFA community; work with more experienced entrepreneurs and see first-hand the challenges and triumphs that come with building a business; training and mentorship; and resources to help bring projects to fruition.
