Description: Teach English in France! Every year, the French Ministry of Education and the Cultural Services at the French Embassy offer approximately 1,500 teaching assistantship positions in French primary and secondary schools and in the French teaching colleges ("IUFM") in all regions of France and the DOM-TOMs (overseas departments). This program allows schools all over France to benefit from your English speaking skills. This means that some assistants may be placed in an urban setting, others in a suburban setting, and still others in a rural setting. You will be expected to teach 12 hours of English conversation classes per week.

Award Amount: You will be paid about 785€ NET a month to live on (approximately $927). You may not defer social security and health care costs. The stipend provides enough money to live the life-style of a typical French student. The program suggests that you visit www.seloger.fr or www.colocation.fr to get an idea of rent in various cities in France.

Duration: 7 months

National Deadline: TBA

This is a unique opportunity to spend 7 months in France with a monthly stipend, have a privileged insight into contemporary France, master the French language through linguistic immersion, and gain valuable teaching experience. American assistants are responsible for making their accommodation and residence arrangements. For more information, please visit the CIEP website, which offers practical and pedagogical resources.

Program Preferences: Candidates with prior teaching, tutoring or coaching experience are encouraged to apply. Prior experience living or studying abroad is helpful but not required. Coursework in education, ESL, or related fields is helpful but not required. Certifications or diplomas providing evidence of French language abilities are helpful.

Candidates should have clear, strong interests in working and living in France or its overseas departments.
