Applicants are judged on three criteria: academic excellence, leadership, and a sustained commitment to service and community.

Twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Award Amount: The Mitchell Scholarship provides for costs of tuition, housing, living expenses, and international travel.

Duration: One academic year.

Campus Deadline: August 14 to be considered for campus nomination

National Deadline: September 28, 2023

Program Preferences: The Mitchell Scholarship looks for persuasive, documented evidence of significant achievement in three areas: academic, leadership, and commitment to community and service. All three areas are important.

It is important that applicants spend sufficient time examining the various programs at the different Irish/Northern Ireland universities in order to determine which programs they are most interested in and qualified for
